About Me

Hi, I’m Shannon, freelance editor extraordinaire! From the time I was a toddler, my mother instilled in me a passion for reading. She read to me from the day I was born until I was old enough to read on my own at the tender age of four. Dr. Seuss, Reading Rainbow, Sesame Street; these are the cultural icons that stoked my love of the written word throughout my adolescence.

As I grew older, I started to explore the world of storytelling. Hours upon hours in the local library, losing myself in so many different worlds, stoked and fueled my passion. I became curious about the behind-the-scenes process of what it takes to bring a story to life, and I realized something: Book editing is what I was put on this earth to do.

It’s why in July 2021, only a month after receiving my Certificate of Editing from the University of Washington-Seattle, I officially opened my doors as a professional freelance fiction developmental editor.

Developmental editing gives me the opportunity to collaborate with authors and bring their story vision to life by combining realistic plot pacing, well-rounded characters, emotional conflicts, and a truly satisfying ending that all fit together and accurately reflect the author’s intent.

And even though perfection is impossible, I want to help authors get as close as I can by catching any stray mechanical or grammatical errors, through copyediting or proofreading, that would harm their invaluable credibility as storytellers.

I currently live with several neurodivergent diagnoses about which I speak openly as a mental health advocate and as someone who lives my truth wholly and unapologetically.

My diagnoses are a core part of me, but they are not ALL of me. Keep that in mind as we work together “improving your story one word at a time!”
